To continue a study of the Chinese poetic genre known as yueh-fu, form the second century B.C. to the tenth century A.D. The yueh-fu is a kind of ballad, and one of my aims is to define the feature it shares with ballads in other languages (particularly English, German, Spanish, and French), and to isolate those characteristics which are uniquely Chinese.
