To write a critical study of Faulkner's work which will complement P.I.'s earlier work William Faulkner: the Yoknapatawpha Country. This volume will examine five novels not covered by the earlier work; give an account of Faulkner's apprenticeship, the literary and historical sources for his poetry and fiction, his innovations in the techniques of fiction and his world view as an artitist and humanist.
