To study the folk music and folk poetry of Evitar, a village representative of the folk culture of the Caribbean coastal region of Columbia. To describe and interpret a rich folk culture which has been little studied and which is now rapidly disintegrating. The inhabitants of Evitar possess only a modicum of literaracy. Folklore has thus formed their principal means of recreation and self expression. The song text recorded, in particular, vividly portray the common attitudes and aspirationsof the members of this community.
