To focus on the interaction of the aesthetic and philosophical thought of Dostoevsky, Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy and Gorky. To find evident common themes and a shared concern for the aesthetic and ethical problems of man and society. To write a six-chapter study which posts Russian literature as the real locus of philosophical and aesthetic thought in Russian 19th century culture.
