To study the hereditary transmission of political power, through the royal office, by the new nobility in early modern France and the effects of this dynastic officialdom on the intellectual history of successive generations. The significance of this study lies in the method of interpretation: an intellectual historical approach, encompassing concepts from the arts, literature, philosophy, as well as from the social sciences.
