The most original and experimental Chinese poetry of the 11th century was written as lyrics to popular songs. There is no systematic account in any Western language of songs (tz'u) of the Southern Sung dynasty, concetrating on the 10 major poets who wrote them. These song lyrics were the most original and experimental Chinese poetry of the 11th century. To write a critical and historical survey of the songs; to show the importance of this poetry through translation and exegesis.
