To examine the "pragmatic turn" evidenced in recent philosophical thinking about the nature of empirical--and especially scientific--inquiry and knowledge. To deal particularly with the ideas of an influential proponent of an explicitly historical and sociological approach to problems in the philosophy of science, T.S. Kuhn. The proposed outgrowth of this study is the publication of the results in articles which should be of extreme interest to philosophers and scholars concerned with the relevance of historical and sociological studies in philosophical problems.
