To make a study of why Australian aboriginal religion in the northeastern part of the continent completely collapsed after 1945 while in northern Australia new cults of a millenarian or "adjustment" type developed so that forms of aboriginal religion have there been maintained. P.I.'s previous work constitutes the chief data now available on northeast Australia.
