To support work on the Historical Phonology of Ukrainian which is one volume of an international series entitled Historical Phonology of the Slavic Languages. Ukrainian, which is used in Russia, is the second largest Slavic language in terms of the number of speakers. P.I. has access to sources not yet in scholarly circulation, which he hopes will enable him to examine the language with greater clarity and objectivity than has been possible heretofore.
