To complete study toward the publication of a book on madness in literature, its wide range of conditions and forms, its characterstics as a continuous literary theme, the variety of thematic and stylistic approaches, and its historical relationship to religious, social, and psychological approaches. This study will contribute to humanistic knowledge by relating the evidence of historical records, anthropological data, and psychological descriptions of insanity to the extraordinary states of human consciousness in literature of different eras and worlds.
