To examine the structure and style of the short-stories of Julio Cortazar, an important figure in modern Latin American fiction. Although Cortazar has been generally recognized as a master of structure and language, there has not been any published criticism dealing with these aspects of his work. The first part of the project includes a study of the major intellectual and literary factors which influenced Cortazar's views of the fantastic. In another part of the study. In the second part themes will be studies as recurring patterns.
