To provide a comprehensive treatment of Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy. Modern literary studies have dealt only with particular aspects of the Consolations so characterized by close integration of content and form that it demands complete literary examination. The P.I. wants especially to examine the hypothesis that Boethius regarded the Consolatio as his literary cosmos.
