To examine the lyric poetry and cultural history of the Southern Sung Period (1127-1279). Project will include a general discussion of Chinese society and culture at the turn of the 13th century and begin the long-range project of tracing the development of Southern Sung lyric songs, focusing on the works of a few eminent figures.
