To analyze the social and cultural life of slaves in the West Indian island of Barbados from I64O to 1834. The study Is aimed at producing an intensive account of a slave population. It is specifically concerned with the values, traditions, material life and behavior of slaves, how they reacted to their status, developed a cultural tradition, and interacted with each other as well as with populations of European ancestry.
