Philosophical Perspectives on the Relations Between Ethics and Politics

FAIN: FA-11134-75

Thomas J. Pangle
University of Texas at Austin (Austin, TX 78712-0100)

To examine the contemporary rebirth of philosophic interest in the relation between politics and ethics. The study will consist of a detailed analysis of Aristotle's Ethics written in the form of a dialogue with Aristotle's text. The dialogue will contrast Aristotle with Kant (as the clearest modern liberal counterpoint), Aquinas and Averroes (as representatives of Christian and Islamic perspectives), and Plato's Meno.
