Two musicians/Leonin (1165-85) and Perotin (1185-1205)/ composed music for the soloistic portions of the Mass and matins responsories after the cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris began to rise in 1163. This new music for the major feasts of the church year are called organa. This project will be the first comprehensive study of this repertory in English in over twenty years and will include many new discoveries and approaches.
