complete a study entitled "The Shock of American Industrialization, A Social History, 1840-1917." The work is a series of case studies which deal with the many responses to the transition from a pre-modern to an industrial and urban American society. The emphasis is on the relationship between a changing social order, perception of those changes, and resulting behavior.
