To complete the second and final volume of a regional study of New Spain during the three centuries of Spanish rule. The survey will include southeastern and northern Mexico and the southwestern U.S. Each minor administrative area is considered in a brief essay describing its social, political and linguistic situation. Each essay is followed by a list of source documents and recent monographic material. Finally,.for each gobierno (larger administrative unit) a synthesis will be drawn from data on minor jurisdictions.
