To study the ethnic genesis, rise, and social and political development of the Aghem of Cameroon in pre-colonial and early colonial times. The study will he based on materials collected during fieldwork in Cameroon in 1969-71, and on additional archival research in Europe. The study is concerned with integrating historical with anthropological interpretations, and in exploring the boundaries between them, and their overlap.
