To examine the interpretive problem that exists in connection with Turkish popular narratives and political traditions. In the Near East there is a close connection between oral-literary traditions and political epochs. Near Eastern literary genres and styles can be seen as something more than the reflection of the spirit of an age or social milieu. They can be -understood as forms which arise in connection with making something of the freedoms and constraints of association which mark a particular political or social regime.
