Institute For Advanced Study (Princeton, NJ 08540-4952)

Study is in two parts: (1) to organize the information on monuments between 1050 and 1300, according to a series of types ranging from functions to dates, techniques, geographical spread, etc., most of this information is at this stage only available in rare publications or not available at all; (2) to study chronicles, literature, and thought during these centuries in order to extract information on the arts (both specific information and attitudes), and in order to define the intellectual and esthetic climate of the time. Study will lay groundwork for a history of Islamic art during a key moment before the Mongol conquest.
