The Theory and Practice of Music Criticism

FAIN: FA-11424-76

To assemble a comprehensive anthology of statements on the theory of music criticism as set down by practising critics rather than by composers or performers. To illustrate these theoretical statements with judiciously chosen examples of the manner in which the enunciated theory works out in practice. Grantee's anthology illustrating the theory and practice of music criticism would be considerably expanded by the use of comprehensive head-notes in which the aesthetic theories of the critics under consideration would be carefully examined, including in these headnotes a considerable amount of lexicographical information. A comprehensive bibliography is also planned.
