To investigate the taxes and tax policies of the later years of Philip IV the Fair of France (1285-1314) and the reigns of Louis X (1313-1316) and Philip V (1316-1322). The study will not simply involve examination of the mechanics of tax imposition and collection, but will focus on the competing influences of contemporary religious morality, the practical financial needs of government in determining policy, the justifications offered for the taxes, and the reactions of the people.
