To produce an edition of the texts and an annotated translation of the commercial correspondence of Nahray b. Nissim (ca. 1025-1097) a merchant banker and communal leader who was active in Egypt and North Africa during the latter half of the llth century. The archives of Nissi highlight the most significant problems of the social and economic life of the 11th century. The second part of Grantee's study will seek to integrate the data generated from the Nissim documents into a general economic and social history of the Mediterranean during this period.
