Caribbean Thought: Historical Evolution of Caribbean Society in its Ideological Aspects

To study the intellectual history of Caribbean culture from 1500 to the present day. The study will analyze the contribution to Caribbean thought by the early Spanish jurists and theologians, the 18th century planter-historians, the post-1804 Haitian historians, Cuban and 20th century nationalists and others. The study will also analyze the impact of Western modes of thought on Caribbean writers and ideologues.
