To complete a book dealing with the history of the civil rights movement in Greene County, Alabama, still the only county in the South with an all-black government. The book, based largely on interviews, will describe the politics of the period, legal and social aspects of the struggle, specific means by which blacks gained control of the government, and the effect of the movement on a typical white farm family. PI will also study the black population's memories of slavery. All materials will be catalogued.
