Two Books on George Cruikshank: His Life, Art and Times

To work on two books concerning George Cruikshank (1792-1878), the artist whose work in so many ways epitomizes his age that his drawings magazines, and pamphlets find their way into nineteenth-century British culture at every level. The works will deal with the artist, with the evolution of popular iconography and of a popular press, and with the related social history of the period.
