To investigate certain aspects of the history of social and cultural thought in the "pre-scientific" period before the emergency of modern sociology. A number of themes — juridical assumptions, methods, principles of organization, ideas of human nature, community and social change, and various ideological controversies — will be traced as well as the shift from "legal science" to "social science".
