To write a biography of the American critic and poet, R.P. Blackmur, (1904-65). Biography will entail examining the material located in the Firestone Library at Princeton, the greater Boston area, New Haven, Chicago and in private collections. Impressions of surviving relatives, colleagues and friends will be recorded. Blackmur assumed that the writer is by definition a political creature who wants to impinge in heuristic ways on the world, and that only by his writing can he affect it.
