FAIN: FA-12150-78

Frederick Cooper
New York University (New York, NY 10012-1019)

To write a social history of the African men who ran one of the continent's most important and oldest railroads. Study will go beyond studying labor as a narrow economic problem: the structure of industry, the social conditions of the workers, and the political consciousness of labor will be studied in its historical context. In addition to files and records, there will be interviews with retired and senior employees to develop brief family studies
