A philosophical investigation of how egalitarian arguments work with respect to women. The work falls into 4 parts: l) historical study of how arguments for equality normally work; 2) philosophical examination of how they apply to women; 3) an investigation of what differences the arguments ignore or suppress in particular sex-related differences; and 4) an examination of alternative ways to justify women's rights. The individualistic egalitarian model of society is seen to be inimical to a just relation between sex groups.
