FAIN: FA-12340-78

John C. Loftis, Jr
Stanford University (Stanford, CA 94305-2004)

To work on a book about Spanish and English drama in the Renaissance. The 3 parts of the book will be: 1) An account of the similarities - an differences - in the development of Spanish and English drama in the Renaissance. 2) A study of plays by English dramatists, notably John Fletche and James Shirley, who drew on Spanish sources and perhaps in a few instances on the comedia. 3) A discussion of specialized topics: e.g. the differences in conventions controlling dramatic dialogue in Spain and England.
