To support the final research and the writing of a book- length historical study of the 18th and 19th century legal Portuguese slave trade from Angola to Brazil. Monograph will examine how Angolan traders, Brazilian merchants, ship captains, and African kings and headmen worked out a coherent and largely self-contained commercial system integrated at its Brazilian terminus with the European economy and connected through Portuguese Angola to several partially autonomous political-economic systems in West Central Africa.
