A Political Biography of Cosimo de Medici (1389-1464)

To continue research into a political biography of Cosimo de Medici (1389-1464). PI will examine the relationship between the Medicean clientele and the clienteles led by other political leaders in mid-15th century Florence. PI will study: 1) the tax returns (catasto) of some 50 political leaders during Cosimo's tenure (1434-1464); 2) the correspondence of Cosimo's family. Documents are located in the Florentine State Archives. PI will also travel to other Italian cities to study Florentine diplomatic correspondence.
