My book will be the first to treat optics and illusionism in classical art from its beginnings in Greek art through its demise in late Roman imperial art. My broad chronological scope allows me to trace a single phenomenon in its various manifestations across cultures and styles of art, for different methods were deployed at different times and in different combinations.
