Edition of Lord Holland's diary from 1831 to his death in 1840, a period in which Holland was almost continuously a Cabinet member. As a liberal nobleman, always active in the cause of civil liberties, and and admirer of Napoleon, Holland is an interesting case study. His diary sheds much light on a politician's human relations with his colleagues and, since it was kept as a source of possible autobiographical and historical writings, reaveals a stateman's sense of history as it was happening.
