ABSTRACT: Fellow to study life and career of Sir Richard Weston, leading official of English government in period preceding outbreak of Great Rebellion of 1640s. Plans to extend doctoral thesis (Weston's career to 1628), for 14-chapter biography, since no such work presently exists. Much recent emphasis on social and economic factors that prompted Great Rebellion, at expense of political, administrative, religious and intellectual history of period. Fellow plans to deal with these factors both in his research and publication and in his undergraduate courses. Since Great Rebellion ranks with American, French, Russian Recvolutions, important to understanding of modern social, political conflicts. Funds for travel and living expenses in England.
