FAIN: FB-10554-70

David G. McComb
Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO 80521-2807)

Comparison of the development of certain Texas cities--including Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Austin, San Antonio, Laredo--which lie roughly along the line that separates the South from the West, in their critical years, 1880 to 1930. As framework for the study, fellow puts forward an urban theory of development, which has regional and national application, evaluating such factors as geography, natural resources, level of technology, timing of events, societal changes, and local leadership, to explain why some cities and towns flourished while others did not.
