Study of origin and growth of medieval cities from an anthropological perspective. Both historical anthropology and urban anthropology are relatively unexplored areas, since anthropologists have traditionally dealt in contemporary under-developed areas which have no cities. A historical perspective on issues in urban studies (such as role of common people in life of city, migration, formation and maintenance of elites, integration of minority groups) is extremely useful to a behavioral scientist engage in the study of urban areas.
