Research in areas of college and university teaching methods, curriculum and institutional change. Fellow to study learning theory and apply to higher education what has been learned about primary and secondary school teaching, teaching the disadvantaged, and in programs such as Peace Corps training. Plans to write a book about experimental teaching methods. Fellow has been director of Freshman English at Notre Dame since 1965; developed the Freshman Introduction to the Humanities Seminar Program, an interdisciplinary course required for all freshmen. Currently on leave of absence from Notre Dame; working on interdisciplinary student-faculty project at San Jose State College.
