Study of legal ideology of New Deal. Fellow's objective is to become legal historian. Previous education, experience and scholarship have equipped him with necessary law background; year of extensive reading in American and British history, coupled with research on the New Deal, should fill lacks in historical training. Exploration into intellectual roots of the legal thought of the New Deal important since the attitudes toward law, justice, regulation, social control, management of the economy, etc., which were formed and expounded during the Roosevelt era still dominate American legal thought and political thought, though under increasing attack from both the left and right. Roots of these attitudes, however are poorly understood and inadequately investigated. Fellow also to design course in English and American legal thought for undergraduates and a course on law and society in historical perspective for law students.
