Study of careers of modern women writers and intellectuals who feel public pressure as women. Writers will include Joyce Carol Oates, Joan Didion, Denise Levertov, Adrienne Rich, Susan Sontag, and Kate Millett. Fellow wants to know if young women writing today have artistic conceptions significantly different from older group of women. Older writers to be used for comparison are: Marya Mannes, Katherine Mansfield, Mary McCarthy, Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor, Dorothy Parker, and Eudora Welty.
