To make a study of the most common themes, motifs, and stereotypes in Nigerian literature and to try to explain their literary and sociological significance. Since most of the African literary works available in the U.S. have been written by university trained intellectuals, they tend to view African society from elitist position. African popular literature, on the other hand, reflects the values, beliefs, and opinions of the common man.
