To make a study of the development of the language and mind of Greece in the period 700 B.C. (the date of our first written literary text) to approximately the time of the composition of the Platonic dialogues. The specific emphasis of this study will be on those changes in laguage development, conceptualization processess and (secondarily) changes in social, cultural and educational attitudes as these can be demonstrated to be a function of Greece's transition from being an oral/aural culture to its being a literate culture.
