Thomas F. Sheppard (Project Director: September 1972 to present)

To examine 18th century life of French men and women in four selected villages at the grass roots level. To describe every aspect of village life--the daily life of the villages, how they earned a living, how local government was organized and functioned, what was the relationship of the village to other governmental bodies, and landholding and social structure in the village.
