The study centers on the career of the pre-eminent poltical-military figure of the extremely disordered period of early Chinese history known as the Three States period, ca. 180-280 AD. The career of that towering figure, Ts'ao Ts'ao has had a temendous impct on all subsequent Chinese political, institutional, intellectual, and even artistic history.
