Barbara K. Bundy (Project Director: February 1973 to present)
Proposal is in in two parts: a detailed reading program in philosophy and the application of knowledge gained through this reading to literature concentrating on Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Ockham, Luther, Erasmus and Agricola and secondly, a scholarly investigation of the literary forms which philosophical inquiry has taken from antiquity to the present, concentrating on the works of Lucian, Petronius, Apuleius, Capellanus, Machiavelli, Artisto, Melville, and Tolstoy. Little has been done on this subject. Applicant hopes study will contribute to her teaching ability in the field of humanities and comparative literature.
