Comparative Studies of the Novel

To confront theories and theorists of the novel with each other, the sociologist with the linguist, the Structuralist with the Marxist, the American New Criticism with the French Nouvelle Critique. Authors, to be studied include: Georg Lukacs, Lucien Goldman, Robert Escarpit, Ian Watt and others. To classify these writings with respect to their own traditions, asking how they complement or contradict each other in terms of their goals, premises, methodology and conclusions.
