To study, analyze and evaluate the social and economic ideas of prominent American Socialist from the founding of the Socialist party in 1901 to the outbreak of the first World War. The major leaders and writers of the socialist movement played a role in the development of the basic ideas and programs of the Progressive Era particularly in the areas of labor, humanitrian reform, and women's rights.
