The Structure of Petrach's Canzoniere and the Structure of English

To research, for publication, the structural conventions of the sonnet sequence, established primarily by Petrarch's Canzoniere. The study will concern not only the major sonneteers, but also the more than twenty minor poets and will attempt to show why poets should have chosen such a odd form of narration as the sonnet sequence to tell their improbable loves.
